Both the Bishop and Parker Foundations have long histories of supporting projects related to health in our community. Edward Bishop had a heart condition that required special attention throughout his life, and this was a primary reason for the employment of Mary Parker, a nursing school graduate they met in New York City. The Bishops were instrumental in the establishment of the Manatee Veteran’s Memorial Hospital (now Manatee Memorial Hospital) and Lillian volunteered there as an operating room nurse. Mary Parker began her relationship with the Bishops as a nurse/companion. Submit your project request in this category if it is related to any/all of five main aspects of personal health: physical, emotional, social, spiritual or intellectual health.
